Islamabad to have three new cycling tracks; facilities to open after Eid
Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) have joined forces to build three new international-standard cycling tracks at Faisal Avenue, Margalla Road and F-6, according to news sources.
The ICTA, CDA and MCI teams are working diligently to make these cycling tracks available to the citizens of Islamabad immediately after the Eid holidays. The development work will be launched today (May 21) and shall continue even during the upcoming Eid holidays to ensure on-time completion.
The CDA spokesperson said that cycling is a popular and health-promoting activity. However, he added that proper cycling facilities were not available to the citizens of Islamabad. He said that due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, cycling had become a popular exercise worldwide; therefore, the ICTA had decided to focus on this project during this time.
The sources reported that these tracks will be developed in line with international standards — including the installation of flood lights for cycling at night. Reportedly, two of the tracks are to be rehabilitated, while one is being constructed.
